Course Description:
In today’s digital world, social media plays a significant role in our daily lives, influencing how we connect, communicate, and perceive ourselves. However, excessive use can contribute to stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and feelings of inadequacy. This course aims to delve into the psychological effects of social media, helping seafarers and shoreside personnel in the maritime industry identify signs of excessive use and emotional distress. Participants will learn practical strategies to set healthy boundaries, manage screen time effectively, and cultivate a more mindful and positive relationship with social media.
Learning objectives:
At the end of the training course the participant shall:
· Demonstrate knowledge on the influence of social media on mental well-being, focusing both on its potential benefits and significant risks
· Develop strategies for prevention and intervention.
· Recognise the responsibilities of social media platforms in fostering mental health, and consider who is at risk (i.e., demographics).
· Apply the knowledge in the maritime industry and consider social media impact on crews.
· Identify actionable strategies to engage with social media in a healthier way.
