Course Overview

Training required for:

Deck Officers and Cadets, who possess basic navigation knowledge and are developing proficiency in ECDIS use. 

   Course Description:

This course provides a practical introduction to ECDIS display features, including chart modes, orientations, scale behaviour, symbolisation, and overlays. It equips Deck Officers with the ability to configure and interpret the ECDIS display correctly to support safe route planning and monitoring.

   Learning objectives:

At the end of the training course the participant shall:

·        Identify ECDIS display modes, orientations, and motion settings.

·        Interpret ENC symbols, colours, and depth information per IHO standards.

·        Apply correct scale, SCAMIN, and chart loading settings for safe navigation.

·        Use Radar and NAVTEX overlays to verify chart information and support navigational decisions.

·        Adjust ECDIS display and safety settings to support route planning and monitoring.
