Course Overview

Training required :

This training is intended for tanker crew members and terminal personnel involved in handling, transporting, or storing petroleum cargoes.

Course Description:

This course provides essential knowledge on the physical, chemical, and operational hazards associated with petroleum cargoes. Participants will learn to identify key risks such as flammability, toxicity, vapor behaviour, and wax formation, and apply best practices for safe transport, storage, and crude oil washing. The training supports regulatory compliance and enhances safety awareness for tanker crew and terminal personnel.

Learning objectives:

At the end of the training course the participant shall:

·        Identify the physical and chemical hazards of petroleum cargoes.

·        Explain the significance of properties like vapor pressure, flash point, and toxicity.

·        Apply safe handling practices for crude oil during transport and storage.

·        Interpret cargo data such as API gravity, cloud point, and viscosity to assess handling risks.

·        Evaluate the suitability of crude oils for crude oil washing operations.

·        Create a basic cargo safety checklist based on risk factors and regulations
