Course Overview

Course Description:

This course introduces seafarers to Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS), a proactive approach that focuses on identifying and improving unsafe behaviours to enhance shipboard safety. Through real-life scenarios, observation techniques, and leadership strategies, participants will learn how to apply the ABC Model, deliver effective feedback, and foster a no-blame, safety-first culture. The training empowers crew members to take ownership of safety, reduce human error, and strengthen teamwork in daily maritime operations.

Training audience :

  This training is for all seafarers, from junior ratings to senior officers, including shore-based safety staff. Anyone involved in daily shipboard operations or safety oversight will benefit.

  

Learning objectives:

At the end of the training course the participant shall:

·        Define Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) and explain its importance in maritime operations.

·        Recognize human factors that influence risk perception and errors.

·        Promote a no-blame, open-reporting safety culture onboard.

·        Practice effective intervention using the Stop Work Authority (SWA).

·        Evaluate BBS effectiveness using key performance indicators (KPIs).
