Deck Officers and Cadets who operate or monitor ECDIS during navigation.

   Course Description:

This course provides practical guidance on the safe and effective use of ECDIS during pilotage and berthing in confined waters. It focuses on correct system configuration, route monitoring, and alarm and sensor management to support safe navigation and bridge team operations.

   Learning objectives:

At the end of the training course the participant shall:

·      Explain the purpose and limitations of ECDIS when used during pilotage and berthing, including its role as a decision support and verification tool. 

·      Identify the correct ECDIS display settings, safety contour considerations, and information layers required for safe navigation during pilotage and berthing operations. 

·      Interpret wheel over positions, cross track error indications, and route monitoring information on ECDIS to maintain situational awareness during confined water manoeuvring. 

·      Apply appropriate ECDIS configuration, alarm management, and sensor cross checking practices to support safe pilotage and berthing in accordance with company procedures.
