   Course Description:

The Safe Isolation of Equipment Onboard: Lock-Out – Tag-Out (LOTO) eLearning course provides maritime personnel of all ranks with essential knowledge and practical skills to prevent accidents during machinery servicing and maintenance. Designed for all crew members, this interactive course covers key LOTO terminology, stored energy hazards, the standard six-step isolation process, and procedures for managing both single and multiple energy sources. Through scenario-based activities and clear visual guidance, learners gain a solid understanding of how to correctly execute energy control procedures, evaluate onboard safety hazards, and conduct vital pre-restart checks to protect themselves and their shipmates. 

 

   Learning objectives:

At the end of the training course the participant shall:

·        Recall key terminology, steps, and purposes from the LOTO

 procedure.

·         Define key terms: Lockout, Tagout, Authorized Employee,

 Affected Employee, Energy Isolating Device, Hazardous Energy

·         State the primary purpose of LOTO (To protect workers from

 hazardous energy during servicing and maintenance).

·         Explain the importance of LOTO and interpret the meaning

 behind the rules

·         Correctly execute the LOTO procedure on a specific piece of

 equipment they work with

·         Differentiate between correct and incorrect procedures and

 identify missing elements or hazards.

·         Assess a situation, make a judgment on your safety, and defend

 your actions regarding LOTO

·         Develop a new Energy Control Procedure (ECP) or a training aid

    for a piece of equipment
