Course Overview

Course Description: 

This course is designed to give an overview of depression and its precursors, and how it can be prevented through early recognition of risk factors and understanding unhealthy thinking patterns that can lead to depression. Users will have more awareness of these patterns and learn how to challenge them.  

 

 Target Audience:

This course is aimed at seafarers and personnel who work with seafarers. By completing this course, they will be able to recognise signs that a person may be experiencing psychological distress which would subsequently increase their risk of depression. They will learn techniques to use to decrease their risk of depression, as well as learn how to support others who might be at risk.   

Learning objectives: 

At the end of the training course the participant shall: 

  • Understand risk factors 
  • Recognize symptoms 
  • Recognize Cognitive Distortions 
  • Understand measures on preventing depression 
  • Understand how to support someone with at risk of depression
