Course Description:
This course introduces the principles and functions of the Integrated Navigation System (INS), including system architecture, sensor integrity, and track control. It explains how automation supports navigation while emphasizing the officer’s responsibility for safe watchkeeping.
Learning objectives:
At the end of the training course the participant shall:
· Explain the purpose and key functions of an Integrated Navigation System (INS) and how it supports safe navigation.
· Differentiate between an Integrated Navigation System (INS) and an Integrated Bridge System (IBS) in terms of scope and functions.
· Identify and interpret sensor discrepancies using INS integrity monitoring and cross checking principles.
· Apply appropriate actions when using INS automation and track control, ensuring continuous human supervision and safe navigation practices.
