Course Overview

Course Description:

Due to the opening of some new oil/gas facilities inside or close to the Arctic Circle, crew members should be aware of the specifics of ice navigation and related procedures, as well as how to prepare the vessel’s equipment and crew when travelling in ice conditions at sea.

It covers all the aspects of preparing a vessel, its machinery, navigation equipment and crew for reliable operation and describes how ships are rated and strengthened for navigation in ice-covered waters. Lastly, this course provides additional guidance on how to maneuver and navigate in ice and examines how icebreakers help a stranded vessel and set it free.
