This training is developed in accordance with the 3rd Edition of the European Manual for Hygiene Standards and Communicable Disease Surveillance on Passenger Ships and follows Annex 28 – Model Training Plan for Housekeeping-Related Practices of the EU SHIPSAN Manual 3rd Edition.
On board a passenger ship, housekeeping is not simply a service function. It is a critical public health responsibility.
Passenger ships operate as enclosed communities. Guests and crew share living spaces, facilities, equipment, and high-touch surfaces throughout the day. In this environment, microorganisms can spread rapidly if hygiene measures are not applied correctly and consistently.
For this reason, the European Manual establishes clear, mandatory standards for cleaning, disinfection, chemical use, personal hygiene, and outbreak response. These standards are designed to interrupt transmission pathways and protect:
